Megan Reel became the Collection Manager at the University of Wyoming Archaeological Repository in September of 2020. She holds a master’s degree in museum science from Texas Tech University, and a bachelor’s from the University of St Andrews (Scotland). Her primary interests are in anthropological collections care, museum interpretation and exhibit development, digital interactives, and collections database design. She spent several years involved in archaeological fieldwork through the Lubbock Lake Landmark’s regional research program and in collections management through the Anthropology Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Her most recent role was as the Curator of Interpretation at the Wyoming State Museum.
As the Collections Manager, Megan is responsible for research, public outreach, publications, and collections management pursuant to Wyoming Statute 36-4-106(d). She believes that maintaining the highest standards of collections care for the Repository is critical to ensure that the collections are accessible for research, education, outreach, and interpretation for the benefit of the public. As an Adjunct with the UW Department of Anthropology, she also teaches the Collections Management class which gives students the practical skills as well as the standards and ethical background necessary to properly care for collections.
